Themes and terminal appearance

Open Settings with the sliders icon at the top of the sidebar. It holds the app theme and how terminals look. A preview on the right shows your choices.

App theme

Pick Console (dark), Greenbar (light), or Like the system to follow your operating system.

Terminal schemes

MorphGate has seven built-in schemes:

Console
The default. Petrol-black background, mint prompt, amber block cursor.
Greenbar
A light, printer-paper background for bright rooms and screen shares, with every color darkened to read on it.
Phosphor P1
A green monochrome CRT look. The 16 colors become steps of brightness of one hue.
Sodium P3
Amber monochrome, for long night sessions.
Bastion
High contrast: pure black and white with saturated colors, every one at 7:1 or more. For low vision, glare and projectors.
Dusk
Low glare: a lifted slate background and softened colors, still at 4.5:1.
Production
Console with a red-tinted background, meant for production hosts.

The scheme you pick applies to every host without a scheme of its own. Tick Follow the app theme to use Console while the app is dark and Greenbar while it is light.

A scheme per host

In a host's editor, pick a Terminal scheme for that host only; the preview beside the form shows it. A group can set one for all its hosts. The scheme is saved with the host, so it syncs and, in a team's vault, applies for everyone.

Give production hosts the Production scheme. Their tabs also get a red marker and a PROD label, so color is never the only signal.

Import a scheme

Choose Import a scheme… to bring in a theme file from another terminal:

  • Ghostty,
  • Alacritty (.toml),
  • iTerm2 (.itermcolors),
  • Windows Terminal (JSON).

Collections such as terminalcolors.com and iTerm2-Color-Schemes publish these. Enter the file's path or paste its contents, give it a name, and choose Import and use. If you can write to a team vault, you can choose to import the scheme there, so the team can use it.

Imported schemes live in the vault and sync. Delete one with the × on its card.

Font

Pick a Family: Atkinson Hyperlegible Mono (the default), JetBrains Mono, Fira Code, the system's monospace font, or Another installed font… by name. Set the Size from 10 to 24 pixels.

Cursor and text

  • Cursor: Block, Bar or Underline, with or without Blink.
  • Draw bold text in bright colors.

Minimum contrast

When a program draws a color too close to its background, the terminal lightens or darkens it until it reaches the ratio you set, from 1 (off) to 7. At 4.5:1 text meets WCAG AA; at 7:1 every color meets AAA, which may shift a scheme's hues. Each built-in scheme has its own default; Use the scheme's own goes back to it.

What syncs

The app theme, the scheme you picked, the font, the cursor and the contrast are settings of this device and don't sync. Imported schemes and a host's or group's scheme are in the vault and do. Reset to defaults resets this device's terminal settings and keeps the app theme.
