You can stop paying, stop syncing, or have your hosted account deleted. They're separate steps, and none of them erases the vault on your devices.
Cancel your subscription
On your account page, choose Manage billing and invoices, and cancel in Stripe's customer portal. A team's owner does the same on the team page, under Manage seats, billing and invoices.
When the plan ends, nothing is deleted. Your devices keep their vault and can still download from the server. Changes stop syncing. See Plans and billing.
Stop syncing a device
In the app, open Sync and choose Disconnect this device. The device keeps your personal vault and works on its own; team vaults are removed from it. Your account and your other devices are unaffected. See Devices, signing in and signing out.
Delete your hosted account
On your account page, choose Delete your account. For your safety the page asks for three things:
- a sign-in in the last 15 minutes: open the page from the app with Manage account, or have a new sign-in link emailed to you;
- your email address, typed out;
- a code from your authenticator app, if you use two-step verification.
You get an email once it's done. The app doesn't offer deletion yet. Without access to your email, write to sync@morphgate.com from your account's address.
Before you delete:
- Export your vault if you want to keep a readable copy. See Export your data.
- If you own a team, transfer it to an admin in the app, or delete it: its owner deletes a team on the team page, under Delete this team, with the same checks. An account that owns a team can't be deleted.
Accounts nobody uses
An account or team without a plan that nobody uses for 12 months (24 months if it ever had a paid plan) is deleted the same way. Using it means signing in or syncing from the app, or signing in to the account page. You get emails 30 days and 7 days before, and using it in that time keeps it.
What deleting an account does
- Your subscription is cancelled first, so you aren't charged afterwards.
- Your personal vault, its items, attachments and session logs are deleted from the server.
- Your devices are signed out, and your device list, sign-in links and codes are deleted.
- You leave every team you belong to. The teams' vaults stay with the teams, including vaults you created; each team sees that you left in its activity log.
- Your email address can't start another free trial, because the trial record outlives the account.
What it doesn't do: erase your devices. Each device keeps its vault, encrypted with your master password, and keeps working without sync. To remove MorphGate's data from a device, uninstall the app and delete its data folder (see Install and update).
Self-hosted servers
On your own server, accounts are yours to manage. The protocol includes account deletion, and the reference server supports it, but the app doesn't offer it yet.
